Embryologists are in daily contact with microscopic images of cells, gametes, zygotes, and embryos. As these images are not always directly transmissible to the medical staff or the patients, they have to be analyzed and summarized by revealing with words their main characteristics. A related task is to assess their “quality” or “normality” to establish a prognosis of their future behavior.
Important morphological features of gametes and embryos are presented in separate chapters.
